The Coca cola story

I don't think there is a human on earth who haven't heard of Coca Cola. A company with 160 billion market capital (or more), yearly sales of above 40 billion dollars and solid world wide presence.

Because so many people don't understand how success happens they create false beliefs about it, keep believing in them and make them a part of their reality.

The average person would think that coca cola was started by a rich millionaire who had the vision of dominating the world with his products but in fact John Pemberton who stared coca cola was a pharmacist.

He discovered the right mix of ingredients by mistake and then tried to sell his product in a near by pharmacy for 5 cents a glass.

During the first year coca cola only sold 25 gallons (9 drinks/day)
At the end of the year John made 50 dollars and spent 73 dollars on advertising. In other words it was a net loss.

Few years later few business men bought the rights to coca cola for only 2300 dollars then years later it became the coca cola company we know of today.

Did you notice how humble this start up was?
And do you now notice how big it became?

What to learn from this story

There are so many important lessons we can learn from this story:

1) You can start real small and get really big: Coca cola was first sold at a pharmacy and didn't make any profits the first year. So many people think that they should start big in order to get big but that's just a false belief about success
2) Its normal not to get results in the beginning: Let me ask you a question. What would have you done if you sold 25 gallons of your new drink in one year? Would you have given up? So many people think that they should get results in order to continue but the truth is that results come when you continue (see also How commitment leads to success)
3) You get what you deserve when you keep fighting: Coca cola is an amazing drink. It deserves to be popular but if the founder gave up on it after selling 25 gallons in one year he would have never made it. In other words, even if your idea was awesome don't expect people to support it before you do a tremendous amount of effort (see also my book How i did it)

So many people like to stay drugged by false beliefs instead of seeing the reality for if they saw reality they would admit they have to struggle and go through a lot of pain.

Its much easier to say "i don't have enough money to start" or "I am not as lucky as someone" than to admit that you have full responsibility for the results you are getting in your life.
